Early Years Coordination

Our school offers co-ordination activity sessions.

These involve:

  • Three half hour sessions per week for approximately 10 - 20 weeks.
  • Children working with adult helpers (usually parents/caregivers) on a ratio of one adult helper to three children.

The aims of the activity sessions are:

  • To help children develop fine and gross motor skills.
  • To improve and develop confidence.
  • To develop skills needed in the playground and improve ability to become part of friendship groups.
  • To improve listening and concentration skills necessary for classroom activities.

It is the policy of this school to test the gross motor skills of all new five year old children after they have been at school for approximately a term.

Research in South Australia has shown that it is important to offer help as early as possible to avoid future social and emotional problems.

If your child is selected to be in the activity programme we will contact you.

Some children only need to attend the activity sessions for a short time.

These sessions depend on support from dedicated parents.
